What We Do
It is entirely possible to arrange a funeral without a Funeral Director and we’ve even helped people to do it.
However, there is more to funeral directing than just filling in a form and taking a body to a cemetery or crematorium.
For most people the death of a friend or loved one is the greatest tragedy in their life. It may not matter if the deceased had a natural, pain-free death in bed surrounded by family or whether they took their own life or were killed as a result of somebody else’s actions – it is always a shock.
Our job is to make sure that your wishes and in many cases, the wishes of the deceased are followed.
From your first visit or call we will advise you on the options available to you.
We will help you choose a cemetery or crematorium or work with you to arrange repatriation.
You will be able to select a coffin appropriate for your budget, taste and needs and then choose whether you want limousines or any extras such as doves, a piper, a choir or even a firework display.
We will liaise with coroner’s officers, hospitals, GPs, clergy or celebrants, put notices in papers and collect charity donations.
We can help you design Order of Service booklets and assist you in choosing floral tributes.
One of our most important jobs is to make sure that the required papers and certificates are ready on time and filled in properly. We also arrange dates with the cemetery or crematorium staff and ensure that the correct forms are filled in on time and as required by local rules and laws.
Sometimes we have to arrange to have a headstone removed prior to a burial so we contact our stonemason who carries this out.
When we have collected the deceased we can prepare and dress them and maybe offer to let you dress them with our help once we have washed and embalmed them. We can style their hair, shave them or put make-up on. Or we will do none of this if that is your wish.
You and your family will be able to visit our Chapel to spend time with the deceased and by prior arrangement we can even do this in evenings to fit around working days if our staff are available.
We can offer advice on DWP benefits and claiming money to help with the cost of the funeral or applying to the deceased’s bank for payment.
We have lists of local pubs, halls and venues for post-funeral receptions as well as lists of local caterers who can help make the day perfect.
At all times you will be given an up-to-date estimate so that you know exactly what everything costs. We always start with the simplest and cheapest options because we firmly believe that nobody should get into debt for a funeral.
All this happens before the funeral…
Whether you want a simple funeral or horses and a band we will do our best to make sure it goes perfectly.
The funeral should be worry-free and a fitting send off for your friend or loved one and a celebration of their life with you.
And on the first Sunday of November every year we hold a Memorial Service where you can join us to remember your friend or loved one and light a candle in their memory.
